Brandon W. Downs is entering his fourth year as Associate Director of Bands at North Mesquite High School. Under his direction, the Symphonic Band has received numerous superior ratings both at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest and at the Springfest at the Murchison, hosted by the University of North Texas. Mr. Downs also plays an integral role in planning and instruction of the marching band at North Mesquite High School.
Before coming to North Mesquite, Mr. Downs was an assistant band director at Mesquite High School in Mesquite, TX. While at Mesquite High School his responsibilities included directing the Symphonic Band and assisting with the Mighty Maroon Marching Band. Mr. Downs also assisted at both Agnew and Wilkinson Middle Schools, where he taught several beginner classes and assisted with advanced band classes.
Mr. Downs graduated from Paris High School in Paris, Texas. After graduating from Paris High, Mr. Downs attended Texas A&M University – Commerce where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Music Education. While at Texas A&M – Commerce, Mr. Downs performed in the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Brad Kent, with whom he also studied conducting privately. Mr. Downs studied French Horn privately under Mike Morrow while at TAMU-C.
Outside of school, Mr. Downs enjoys traveling, going to the lake, teaching, and performing as much as he can in the DFW area. His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association. Mr. Downs is proud to announce his engagement to his fiancée, Tish Gomez, who is a band director at Midlothian High School in Midlothian, TX.
