Prior to joining the staff at North Mesquite High School in the summer of 2006, Jeffrey D. Jones served as an assistant director at Dr. Ralph H. Poteet High School in Mesquite, Texas. Under his direction, Poteet High School Concert Band grew from a 35 member non-competitive ensemble to a 60 member consistent University Interscholastic League Sweepstakes award-winning ensemble. Additionally, Mr. Jones was pleased to serve as an assistant director to the 2005 4A State Marching Band Champion Poteet Pirate Band.
Mr. Jones graduated 5th in his class of 421 from Mansfield High School. He holds a Bachelors of Music Education from Texas Tech University (Summa Cum Laude) and Masters in Music Education from The University of North Texas (Magna Cum Laude).
During his career at the Texas Tech University School of Music, Mr. Jones served as Drum Major of the Sudler Trophy Recipient "Goin' Band From Raiderland" as well as performed with and guest conducted the Court Jesters basketball band. Jeff also performed with the University's Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Keith Bearden, and studied French horn with Mr. Anthony Brittin.
Away from his school responsibilities, Mr. Jones enjoys performing with community ensembles, hosting leadership seminars with high school students from around the state of Texas, and teaching horn privately. Private students of Mr. Jones have been honored to perform in the following musical arenas: All-Region band and Area Wind Ensemble, 5A All-State Orchestra, 4A All-State Band (First and Second Chair), Texas State Solo and Ensemble contest, the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and the nationally syndicated radio program "From the Top" with Christopher O'Reily.
Awards and professional affiliations include: The National Band Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, International Horn Society, Association of Texas Professional Educators, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Pi Kappa Lambda National Musicians Honor Society, and Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
Mr. Jones resides in Rockwall, Texas, with his beautiful wife Bethany. The Joneses are blessed with two girls, Caitlyn Renee (2006) and Esther Grace (2008) and one boy, Seth Allen (2010). Mrs. Jones maintains a private flute studio throughout North Texas and holds a Masters in Secondary and Higher Education from Texas A & M University-Commerce.
